Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by just one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, trailing 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his team followed a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, if briefly, when he lost control at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before sliding over the run-off area, and was fortunate to escape with just a slight brush of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed corner before the last turn on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in P19, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds slower than the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
